Summer Reading

Reading is an important part of everyday life. Just because it is summer, students should not put their books away! The more our children read the better readers they will be.

We encourage you to visit the public library this summer and participate in the many activities offered, especially the summer reading program, “Build a Better World”. The librarians look forward to helping you and your children select books that will be just right for them to read.

Students should feel free to select books that they can read with ease. It is most important that students are reading books and magazines that they enjoy.

Once your child has finished a book or a magazine article, please record the information on his/her reading log.

Each child should choose a favorite book from the reading log and create a “T-Shirt Report.”  Reading Logs should include the title of the book or article, date, author and number of pages.   Instructions for the t Shirt Report are as follows:

T- Shirt Book Reports

Your child needs to read a 3rd grade level chapter book and do a t-shirt book report on that book.

Directions:

1. Please choose a plain t-shirt of any color.

2. Add the title of the book and author to the front of the shirt.

3. Draw your favorite part of the book somewhere on the front of your shirt.

4. Your shirt should have lots of color and details.  You may use markers, fabric paint, iron-ons, sewn-on items, etc…..BE CREATIVE!!!!

We would like you to help your child with this project, but remember they are the primary designer of their t-shirt. I love and need to see what they can do.  J

Students should have their shirts in school by the end of the first week
