Summer Reading 2018

Dear Third Grade Parents,

While you are taking a break from the rigorous school routine, please remember to practice basic math skills such as addition and subtraction with your child.  Flash cards are a great tool as well as the multitude of online games.  Children will be expected to be fluent in subtraction and addition facts up to 20.

Reading is an important part of everyday life. Children receive many benefits from reading. I encourage you to visit the public library this summer.  They offer many programs and activities especially the summer reading challenge called “Libraries Rock.” The librarians look forward to helping you and your children select books that will be just right for them to read.

Barnes & Noble and Scholastic also have summer reading programs. Any child that completes one of these or a similar reading challenge should bring in proof of completion for credit in ELA.

Children should select books that they can read independently and that are on their reading level. It is most important that students are reading books and magazines that they enjoy.

Children should complete the enclosed reading log once they have finished an appropriate book or magazine article.

Each child should choose a favorite book from his/her reading log and create a “T-Shirt Report.”  The instructions along with the reading log are included.

Thank you and have a wonderful and restful summer,

Mrs. K. Willett
